Fleas are very tiny, wingless insects with shiny reddish brown bodies and microscopic hair. The biggest they grow to is about 2.5 mm long.
Fleas are parasites who live off of blood from humans and animals such as dogs, cats, and rats. They cannot fly but they are able to jump very long distances with their three sets of elongated legs. They can produce 40-50 eggs which means infestations can get out of hand very quickly. They lay these eggs on the hair of their hosts, which usually drop off onto carpets, bedding, and furniture.
They can often carry extremely dangerous diseases, so once you know that you have a flea infestation, we recommend that you contact a pest professional immediately so that they can get rid of these dangerous pests.
In the Carolinas, the humid and hot summers can bring a whole new group of pests around. Since it’s not year-round, not all of these pests are covered by our standard York and Waxhaw pest control services. That is why here at Freedom Pest Services, we proudly offer a seasonal pest treatment. This treatment is called total yard control and takes care of mosquitoes, fire ants, fleas, and ticks from April – October. If you are finding that these pests are a nuisance outside of that time period, we offer additional monthly coverage upon request.
